Bayshore Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society
Established in 2017, the Bayshore Foundation for Empowered Living supports local charities that help people live independently by funding initiatives that improve Canadians’ quality of life by removing barriers that prevent them from taking control of their independence.
Since 2019 the Foundation has raised and donated more than $60,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society. In 2023 alone, our donation was $25,000, raised through events hosted by our local Bayshore Home Care Solutions branches and our Bayshore Specialty Rx division, which includes Patient Support Programs that deliver ongoing care to patients who are taking specialty pharmaceuticals. So far this year just over $11,000 has been raised.
These funds have helped support nationwide programs offered locally by the Cancer Society that help cancer patients better manage their lives with cancer, find community and connection, and build wellness and resilience. Currently there are over 4,000 free programs and services across the country, used by 78,000 Canadians including:
- A toll free information helpline for cancer patients, their families and caregivers to provide answers to general questions about cancer, cancer prevention, side effects and clinical trials. In 2022, the helpline received 40,000 calls, 10,000 live chats and 6,500 emails.
- CancerConnection.ca, a moderated online community for people living with cancer, cancer survivors, and caregivers to share their experiences, exchange information and provide support for one another.
- The Community Services Locator database to help find cancer-related services such as home care, Wheels of Hope (volunteer drivers to take patients to cancer appointments), travel treatment fund (supplementing costs of gas, parking and taxis), help finding a wig or prosthesis, and more.
- Assistance in finding accommodation at one of the 7 Cancer Society Lodges across Canada; a home away from home for patients who need to travel to receive treatment.
- Assistance with Transportation Services to help patients find the best option for travelling to their treatment.
The Bayshore Foundation is proud to continue to support the Canadian Cancer Society and its many local programs and services.
